Huge Wind Turbine farm get’s approval
A huge offshore Wind Turbine farm which is expected to pump more than £500 million worth of investment into the UK economy has been given the green light by the Government.
Developers of the East Anglia One project, located off the coast of Suffolk, plan to install up to 240 Wind Turbines – enough to power around 820,000 homes.
When completed it would be the largest offshore wind farm in the world, taking the top spot from the London Array which currently has 175 turbines.
The project, a joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables and Vattenfall, is also expected to support 1,800 jobs.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey believes East Anglia and the rest of the UK have a “lot to gain from” from this development.
He said: “The project has the potential to inject millions of pounds into the local and national economies and support thousands of green jobs. Making the most of Britain’s home grown energy is crucial in creating job and business opportunities, getting the best deal for customers and reducing our reliance on foreign imports.”
Construction is scheduled to start in 2017, with generation expected in 2019.
