Heat Pump Standards updated by MCS

heat pump MCS standards

MCS have updated the newest Heat Pump standards, which are now available to download from their website. The new standards come into force on 1st April, 2022.

The Heat Pump standard has been split into two, one for design (MIS3005-D) and one for installation (MIS3005-I). From our understanding, heat pump installers can now be certified in design or installation separately.

If you are certified in design only, you would need to subcontract installation work to another installer who is certified for installation, and vice versa. Therefore, you could not subcontract to an installer who is not certified. We are seeking clarification around installers who are certified for both, and if that means they can subcontract out to non-certified installers in that instance.

They have also changed some technical requirements, which we are looking into.

We will be making all necessary changes to the documentation and to Installer Toolkit to coincide with the implementation date.

You can read the newest standards here.
