Solar Thermodynamic update

MCS have issued a further update on the issue of Solar Thermodynamic installations on 16th November. Following meetings held with a number of Solar Thermodynamics manufacturers, MCS have clarified that neither Solar Keymark Certification or EN12975 cover these products.

MCS have said they will allow installers to continue registering those collectors using water and / or water-glycol mix as the heat transfer medium only, should they wish to do so. The collector must be installed in full compliance with the conditions under which the Solar Keymark certification was issued and MCS MIS3001.

MCS also confirmed that as of Monday 19th November the registration under MCS of Solar Thermodynamic installations using refrigerant is not permitted. For thermodynamic installations registered on the MCS Installation Database, the MCS certificates will be suspended.

This does not mean that refrigerant based Solar Thermodynamic systems cannot be installed in the UK it means they cannot be registered on the MCS Installation database.
